The Santa Clarita Casting Club is on hold until we get new direction and energized leaders.
In the meantime, we will remain a social club of friends and
acquaintances built by years of fun, fishing and family-like relationships!
Please check out our calendar and “news-page” as we are still a very active “social & fishing” club!
SAD NEWS – The passing of Ray Bianco
As written by Rick Russo, SPFF president
I have been informed that Ray Bianco passed away this morning (Friday, February 7th, 2025)
For those who did not know him, he was a casting legend in the southland. He instructed many students, some who are master casters today. Standing at only about 5’4″, he was known to understand the mechanics of the fly rod so well that he would cast effortlessly to a distant target. He will be missed at the casting ponds of SoCal for the poetry that he wrote with a fly line and the even temperament of his teaching.
For those who had the privilege of knowing him, SPFF offers its condolences for your loss. May he rest in peace.

Rick Williams and Rhonda Sellers are this year’s recipients of FFI’s highest honor, the FFI Award of Distinction for Leadership and Service. Richard “Rick” N. Williams, PhD – Eagle, Idaho Rick Williams is an ideal candidate for this award due to his many contributions to FFI. Recognizing his expertise as a fisheries biologist and pioneering casting instructor, Rick is currently a Senior Advisor to the FFI Board of Directors for both conservation and casting. His contributions to both FFI’s casting program and conservation program have endured over many years and have played a key role in the development of both of those programs. Rhonda Sellers – Livingston, MT Rhonda Sellers leadership to FFI over the last 13 years clearly exceeds the rigorous criteria for this award. In her roles as Operations Manager, Vice President for Operations, and now Executive Director, her leadership and talents have touched literally every aspect of our organization. From budget development and finances to website design to “keeping the train on the track” and everything in between, Rhonda is the glue that holds FFI together. |
