It’s that time again: time for the SCCC’s bi-weekly Zoom Book Club meeting where we will read and discuss chapter 8 of Tom Rosenbauer’s book, The Orvis Guide to Finding Trout.
This is a terrific book that takes a very different and strategic view of how to find and catch trout. Tom is what I call “a thinking man’s fly fisher.”
Teaser Quote Alert: “Although you nearly always find abundant white water in pocket water, trout won’t hold in it when they feed. Spooked trout might use it for cover, but, for the most part, it’s too unbalanced for trout to hold their position in the current, and too hard for them to see their prey–and their enemies.” And here I always cast to the white water thinking it will either take my fly right down into the trout’s cone of vision or its feeding zone. No wonder I rarely catch a trout in the foam and bubbles!
