Subject: Club Proposal
Hi Members,
It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to a close and we are moving into fall and the holidays. Hope your summer was amazing and that you got in some fishing.
The club’s Board of Directors (BOD) has been reviewing the activity of the club and finds this to be a perfect time to start discussing plans for 2025. The overall strengths of the club are the casting clinics, fly tying classes, and the book reading group with all three activities going strong.
The club still needs a few more new and innovative people to help organize outings, meetings, membership, and presentations/speakers. If you find that this is something you would be interested in, please let me know.
If a new BOD, with additional board members, is not established, we are looking at streamlining the club. Streamlining means that we would keep the parts that are working and minimize the ones that are not working. Below is a club proposal for restructuring. We would:
· Create a website “placeholder” for potential future access.
· Continue using Instagram as that seems to be used more than websites these days
· Eliminate membership fees, but would keep the current membership for activities and notifications
· Continue using Zoom for potential communications
· Eliminate the Directors and Officers Insurance as there would be no BOD.
· Discontinue membership in the Federation of Fly Fishers.
· Retain our non-profit status and bank account for small purchases
· Discontinue the P.O. Box rental
If we opt for the “streamlined” version of the club, please consider attending meetings with Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers (SPFF) in the San Fernando Valley. You don’t have to be a member to go to the meetings. Several of the Santa Clarita Casting Club members have been going to those meetings, so we could carpool. It would make for a great night out. The SPFF has a great meeting place in Encino that serves food and drinks, and they usually have presenters. Check out SPFF at www.spff.org
The streamlining proposal would substantially reduce our overhead yet keep the club running as it is currently. As such, would you please take a few minutes to review this information and let me know what you think? I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
